New council chair celebrates Norfolk's dedicated volunteers

The new chair of Norfolk County Council has dedicated his year in office to celebrating the achievements of volunteers.

Councillor Stuart Dark was appointed to the council's top civic role at its annual general meeting today (Tuesday, 7 May), with Councillor Tom FitzPatrick as vice-chair.

Cllr Dark said: "I look forward to celebrating the remarkable contributions of our volunteers and organisations over the next twelve months, and to doing my bit to encourage more people to get involved and lend a hand."

Councillors paid tribute to outgoing chair, Councillor Barry Stone, for his work over the last year.

At the same meeting, Council leader Councillor Kay Mason Billig announced who will be in her cabinet for the next year.

The latest members are:

• Deputy leader and finance - Councillor Andrew Jamieson
• Economic development - Councillor Fabian Eagle
• Transport - Councillor Graham Plant
• Children' services - Councillor Penny Carpenter
• Adult social services - Councillor Alison Thomas
• Public health - Councillor Bill Borrett
• Environment - Councillor James Bensley
• Property - Councillor Jane James
• Communities - Councillor Margaret Dewsbury

The deputy cabinet members are:

• Finance - Councillor Greg Peck
• Transport and Environment - Councillor Chris Dawson
• Children's services - Councillor Karen Vincent
• Adult social services - Councillor Shelagh Gurney
