About the Freedom of Information Act and making a request

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives anyone the right to request access to information held by the Council.  It also places an obligation on us to publish more information as a matter of routine and is designed to promote democracy by allowing people to gain a greater understanding of how the Council works and how we make our decisions.

In the vast majority of cases, we are legally obliged to inform the requester whether we hold the requested information and, if so, to communicate it to them, subject to any exemptions that may apply.

Information about you

If you want to request information that the Council holds on you as an individual, you should make a Subject Access Request.  Read more about getting access to information we hold about you.
