Asbestos removal and disposal

Asbestos is a hazardous waste needing to be handled and disposed of safely.

We do not accept asbestos at any of our recycling centres, even during our hazardous waste events. Our advice is to remove and dispose of all types of asbestos through a specialist licenced contractor listed on the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) website

The use of Asbestos was banned in 1999 however, much of this material is still in place today and requires specialist removal and disposal. Examples of this are ceiling/floor tiles, storage heaters, corrugated roof, and drainpipes. Some ironing boards, oven gloves and fire blankets manufactured before 1999 also contain asbestos.
