Glyphosate policy
Norfolk County Council is committed to minimising the use of herbicides, including those containing glyphosate.
Our glyphosate policy explains how herbicides are used on land the Council owns or manages as part of an integrated approach to weed management.
The policy sets out how we control weeds to maintain safe and healthy spaces for our communities while:
- Being cost-effective
- Minimising environmental impact
- Not compromising on public safety
The policy is in line with priorities in our environmental policy, climate strategy, and other Council environment policies.
Glyphosate products are currently the best available solution in some situations such as on highways and for control of invasive weeds. This is because the results of glyphosate are long-lasting, cost-effective, and often have the lowest environmental impact in terms of carbon emissions.
We only use authorised and approved glyphosate products. We ensure that any use of glyphosate products on our lands meets legal requirements.
We only use contractors that are members of an approved assurance scheme recognised by the UK Amenity Standard. This ensures that they follow best practice and legal requirements for using glyphosate products.
