Step On It pedestrian training
Our online pedestrian safety sessions teach pupils the key concepts of being a pedestrian.
We deliver these sessions in a staged approach. This is to build confidence, knowledge, understanding and resilience. It also builds a sense of independence and responsibility into journeys.
Our aims
Our aims are to enable children and young people to:
- Build understanding and knowledge to empower positive roadside behaviours
- Engage the necessary life skills needed to become safe and confident pedestrians
- Support their active and independent travel choices
Course details
We deliver the sessions live, via Microsoft Teams. Sessions run for approximately 45 - 60 minutes.
These sessions are suitable for key stage 2 and key stage 3 pupils.
We can deliver sessions to:
- A single class
- Multiple classes
- Home education families
Sessions for year 3 and 4
This online session offers an introduction into the basic skills of being pedestrian.
Subjects covered:
- Green Cross Code
- Identifying safer places to cross
- Identifying what indicators, reverse lights and brake lights mean on a vehicle
Sessions for year 5 and 6
This online session offers an introduction into basic and intermediate skills of being a pedestrian.
Subjects covered:
- Green Cross Code
- Identifying safer places to cross
- Identifying what indicators, reverse lights and brake lights mean on a vehicle
- Road signs, road markings and shared paths
- Road safety features around school
- Perspectives of other road users
Sessions for year 7 and 8
This online session offers an introduction into advanced skills of being a pedestrian.
Subjects covered:
- Independent travel
- Shared responsibility
- The Highway Code
- Hierarchy of road users
- Road safety features around school
- Perspectives of other road users
Cost
These sessions are free.
Norfolk County Council Public Health funds them.
