Authorised vehicles
Certain vehicles are exempt from bus lanes/gates and other restrictions.
Bus lanes and gates
- Buses, coaches, and minibuses with over eight seats (excluding driver) may use bus lanes and gates.
- Emergency vehicles while undertaking emergency duties. These vehicles must be liveried and/or displaying blue lights as required by legislation.
- Bicycles, tricycles
- E-scooters hired from an approved scheme.
- Taxis (licenced hackney and private hire which must display a roof mounted light for identification)
Note - Taxis cannot use all bus facilities, drivers should observe and follow the instructions on signs which will indicate if they are allowed to proceed.
- Statutory works vehicles this means highway maintenance vehicles, utilities vehicles (power/gas/phone), refuse and bus shelter cleaning.
Note - These vehicles should not use the restriction as a 'shortcut'
Restrictions subject to moving traffic enforcement

Note - where restrictions are timed and the work not an emergency drivers should not contravene them. - Bicycles/tricycles and e-scooters from an approved scheme (pedestrian and cycle zones only)
