Libraries for children and young people with SEND

We care about making sure our services are accessible for all families, including those with children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Ask at your local library or mobile about an equal access card.

• Wide range of books and other fun educational items
• Early learning and information books with clear pictures or photos
• A range of storybooks and information books for all abilities
• Story CDs
• Text to speech services can be accessed at every library through an assistive computer which also has additional software for editing photos, scanning and for screen magnification.

• Multi sensory stories (Bag Books)
• Story Sacks: a story sack contains a picture book and non-fiction book on the same theme along with toys and other objects to help with telling the story. A list of storysacks is available in the county. Please ask at your local library for more information.
• Audio Books. As well as story CDs there are also some 'Read-Along' sets with a large print book and CD packaged together to enable children to use a range of senses to access books.
• Large print books with 16 point text: a range of large print titles featuring favourite and popular authors
• Giant print and braille picture books: a small range of popular picture book titles with 75 point text and braille
• Makaton items and some 'baby signing' titles.
• Braille picture books from the 'Clear Vision' scheme. Picture books which have a Braille overlay to each page allowing blind/partially sighted family members to enjoy sharing stories with the rest of the family. A small range of picture books for younger children in Moon can also be supplied from the 'Clear Vision' scheme.
