Case study: Work experience at The White Hart leads to paid employment

The Skills and Employment Team (SET) initiated and built a relationship with The White Hart hotel in a small town in Norfolk. We discussed the Disability Confident scheme and the owner decided that this was something she would like to be more involved in. The owner is a firm believer of helping people in her local area, and very much adopts a 'family' feeling within her team.

Disability Confident employer

The White Hart signed up to be a Disability Confident employer, and since then has hosted a gentleman with learning disabilities on a work experience placement. The employer soon found that he was very loyal, trustworthy and willing to do anything he could to help. He was accepted into the team very quickly, and he was an asset to their team. The employer ensured some reasonable adjustments were made, which made sure the client was able to turn up on time and do the job he needed to do.

As the employer was so impressed with how well things had turned out, she offered the gentleman a paid job. She now knows which adjustments work for this specific person and loves him working for them!

"What an amazing scheme to be able to offer us the chance of being able to work alongside someone like 'D' and then offer him employment as a fully paid member of our team. He is hard-working, passionate, committed, an absolute pleasure to be around and I wish we could find more like him." Owner, The White Hart, Hingham
