Parent, baby and toddler groups

Parent, baby and toddler groups are informal sessions arranged to bring together parents/carers and young children in the local community. They are a way for you to meet other parents and for your child to mix with other children. The groups are usually run by parents themselves and welcome mothers, fathers, carers and grandparents to attend with their child.

When and where the parent, baby and toddler groups are held

Groups are usually held in local church halls, community centres or family centres. They usually take place once a week for two or more hours. Most are run on a drop-in basis.

Age of children

Different groups vary and your baby may be able to attend from birth, although many generally suggest around three months old. Your child can usually attend until they start school.

Cost

The cost of a group is set by the people who run the group. It is usually between £1-3.

What happens at a group

Each group offers different things. Generally there are toys for the children to play with and sometimes a sing-along or music. Some groups will organise activities such as reading stories or arts and crafts, and maybe a drink and a biscuit for the adults! Contact your local groups to see the sorts of things they do.

Parent, baby and toddler groups are not a form of childcare and therefore are not registered with Ofsted. Your child must be supervised by you at all times.
