Why foster for the council
Five children come into care every week in our county. We need more people to work with us to give them a loving home.
Norfolk County Council is at the heart of children's social services in Norfolk.
Our expert team will be with you all the way. From when you enquire, through the assessment and approval process, to when you are an experienced foster carer. We can offer you decades of experience.
Fostering with us means you're part of a supportive, knowledgeable community that makes a difference to children.
What you will get from us
- Our support throughout the process. We will get to know you and your family really well. This in-depth knowledge helps us to match you with the right child.
- Assigned an experienced foster carer mentor, who'll be on hand for all those questions you are likely to have
- Extensive therapeutic training and support in Norfolk (including support for your family too). We want you to foster with confidence.
- Continuous and flexible support for when you face challenges or have worries. This support is 24/7, 365 days a year. We will always listen and guide without judgement if things don't go according to plan.
- Help to work out the financial side of fostering. For example, understanding and making the most out of your fees and allowances, tax benefits and other financial rewards.
- Introduced to other foster carers so you can build a fostering support network. We have a network of more than 300 foster carers. Linking with carers widens your fostering social circle immediately. It opens up the possibilities for days out, babysitting and sleepovers.
- Access to more training online or at convenient locations around the county. We cover all sorts of topics including therapeutic and trauma-focused training. There is also the option to access Foster East training with our partners across the East of England on specialist topics.
- Access to our fostering handbook
Who are Norfolk Fostering Service and Foster East
Norfolk Fostering Service is a not-for-profit fostering agency in Norfolk. It's the largest fostering agency in Norfolk, with the biggest community of friendly foster carers. We are part of Foster East, who work with us to help make sure fostering is right for you and your family. The Foster East network is a collaboration of 11 local councils in the East of England.
We focus on improving the lives of children in Norfolk, with the help of incredible foster parents. They work with us to give children of all ages loving homes and the chance to flourish.
We get involved whenever there is a need for care or support for children and young people in the county. We work to ensure every Norfolk child or young person in care can remain local, and thrive in their own community. We only use other fostering agencies if we have no suitable in-house carers.
Norfolk Fostering Service is located under one roof meaning we have access to:
- Mentors
- Educational experts
- Social workers
- SEND specialists and other children's services teams
- All the information we need about the children in our care
We have local offices in King's Lynn, Thetford, Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
