Kinship / connected foster carers

Sometimes a child or young person's family member or family friend may offer for the child or young person to live with them. These carers are trained and safety checked before that can happen. Kinship/friends and family carers have to have the same safety checks as all foster carers, the only difference is that they will be someone you or your family already knows.

All kinship carers can go on extra training to make sure they have all the skills they need to keep you happy, safe and well. They will have their own social worker, called a supervising social worker, who will support them and make sure they know about training, support or anything else they need to give you the best possible home.

Every year the supervising social worker will complete an annual assessment which involves talking to you and the carer to find out what has gone well and what could be improved.
