Once you turn 18, you can claim benefits if you are eligible. This might be because:
- You are not employed or on a low income
- You are not in education
- You are a parent
- You have a health condition or disability, or you are a carer

Funding for care leavers
There is also specific funding available for care leavers.

These are free to use and anonymous.
How to make a benefit claim
You will need to contact JobCentre Plus to:
- Make a new benefit claim
- Speak to them about an existing benefit claim
- Change or cancel an appointment
Client Hardship Service
You can apply for a one-off grant from the Client Hardship Service if you have an emergency and need urgent help.
If you apply for items in your home, you will be asked if you have received your Leaving Care Grant.
