When you pay for your care, Norfolk County Council looks at how much you can afford to pay. This is called a financial assessment.

Disability related expenses information

Some people have to pay for extra things because of their disability or care needs. We call these disability related expenses.

5 rules

You can make a claim for disability related expenses if the items you claim for meet all of our 5 rules. We follow rules so that our decisions are fair.

The 5 rules are:

Rule 1 for claiming disability related expenses

1. You must get disability benefits like:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (Care Component)
  • Personal Independence Payment (Daily Living Component)
     

Rule 2 for claiming disability related expenses

2. The cost is necessary. This means these are things you need, not just things you want.

Rule 3 for claiming disability related expenses

3. The cost is reasonable. This means the cost is fair for what you are buying.

Rule 4 for claiming disability related expenses

4. You need these things because of your disability or illness.

Rule 5 for claiming disability related expenses

5. You are not already getting money towards the cost from somewhere else. This might be mobility payments or from the National Health Service.
