Public health training

Introduction

Would you like to learn more about public health?

We can support you with a variety of courses and workshops if you’re looking to improve your knowledge and awareness in health promotion, prevention and protection.

Our training will support personal and professional development in your workplace or your local community. Courses will be delivered in a professional setting at approved centres across Norfolk.

Dementia Friends information sessions

People with dementia sometimes need a helping hand to go about their daily lives and feel included in their local community.

A Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it's like to live with the condition, then turns that understanding into action that could make a difference to people living with dementia.

Dementia Friends is a national initiative run by the Alzheimer's Society (opens new window), which aims to improve people's understanding of dementia and its effects. Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend.

Dementia Friends information sessions are delivered for free to any group of interested individuals (minimum of five), whether it’s a community organisation, set of employees or just a social group.

Sessions last about an hour and can be arranged at a time and location to suit you.

Additional information sessions run by other organisations can be found on the Dementia Friends website (opens new window).

Here's some feedback from previous events:

  • “Really well-structured, informative and fun.”
  • “A truly inspirational session, I was amazed at how little I knew and how I can now inform people easily. Great thanks!”
  • “Having just started working with people with dementia I found the talk extremely informative, particularly the ‘bookcase’ analogy.”

Workplace stress control and wellbeing

As part of the nationwide NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme, the Norfolk and Suffolk Wellbeing Service is offering stress control taster sessions and full courses for employers and their staff.

The IAPT programme is designed to reduce stress related absence from work, which can be achieved by providing people with tools and strategies to manage their stress levels more effectively.

This course will support people to manage their stress both at work and at home, as well as letting people know how to access further support within the Wellbeing Service if they require it.

Stress control taster session

This two hour session covers understanding stress, what keeps stress going and how to manage stress. The session also provides information on what else the Wellbeing Service can offer.

This free course can be delivered at workplaces at a suitable time - wherever possible we will be flexible to fit in with the needs of your organisation.

Full course

This course goes into more detail around the management of stress and how to take control of our body, thoughts and actions, as well as addressing panic and sleep.

It's delivered for free at your workplace in four 90-minute sessions over four weeks. Again, wherever possible we will be flexible to fit in with the needs of your organisation.
