About Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service stations cover the 4th largest area in England with 2,074 square miles including 200 miles of inland waterways, 90 miles of coastline and 6,125 miles of roads.

We serve 891,700 residents including 428,713 in rural populations. We are at the heart of community protection.

Everyone knows that we provide an emergency blue light response, but not everyone knows a relatively small amount of our time is spent attending emergencies and fighting fires. What we do the rest of the time is intensive staff training and community prevention.

Where we are based

Our service is based within communities and we operate from 42 fire stations across Norfolk. Our fire stations are split into four regional areas.

Central area

The central area covers the whole of Norwich and beyond and is home to the Diamond Jubilee Station and Sprowston Station, which are staffed by wholetime firefighters. North Earlham Station is staffed by wholetime and on-call firefighters. The central area also includes stations in Aylsham, Reepham, Acle, Hethersett and Wroxham, staffed by on-call firefighters.

Eastern area

The eastern area is home to 11 stations with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston staffed by wholetime and on-call firefighters, and Cromer, Loddon, Holt, Martham, Mundesley, North Walsham, Sheringham, Stalham and Wells stations all staffed by on-call firefighters.

Southern area

The southern area is home to our control room in Wymondham and our urban search and rescue (USAR) based in Dereham. Thetford is staffed by wholetime and on-call firefighters, and Wymondham, Attleborough, East Harling, Hingham, Diss, Watton, Methwold, Swaffham, Dereham, Harleston and Long Stratton stations are staffed by on-call firefighters.

Western area

The western area is home to King's Lynn North, staffed by wholetime and on-call firefighters, and King's Lynn South, staffed by wholetime firefighters. Downham Market, Heacham, Hunstanton, Massingham, Fakenham, Outwell, Sandringham, Wells, Terrington and West Walton stations are staffed by on-call firefighters.
