Are you coming to the end of your social work course or already a newly qualified social worker and wanting a career in Children's Services?
We offer a programme of enhanced support alongside the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). We also continue to offer additional support throughout your second year of practice. This helps to support you to build your skills and knowledge in practice within the rewarding and varied world of social work with children.
You will have a protected caseload, as well as regular development time throughout your first year in practice. We will also provide you with regular reflective supervision, on both an individual and group basis, constructive feedback to build your skills, as well as supporting you with visits and meetings, wherever needed.
Our Ofsted inspection in 2023 rated us Good in all areas. Read highlights from our Ofsted inspection in January 2023.
How does it work?
To be eligible for the Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) programme you must be nearing successful completion of your social work course or have qualified as a social worker but not yet practiced as one.
If you are waiting for your social work qualification to be confirmed we offer you the chance to join us as a social work assistant in advance of being registered with Social Work England so that you can gain experience and paid employment.
Whether you join us initially as a social work assistant or straight away as a newly qualified social worker we will place you in a fieldwork team in one of our six localities. Each locality has a dedicated practice consultant, an experienced senior social worker, who will support you throughout the year and on into your second year. They will be very available and help you build your individual skills and knowledge in practice.
You will get a training calendar for the year and regular learning opportunities with other newly qualified social workers, as well as benefitting from our partnership with the University of East Anglia to increase your knowledge and skills.
What are the benefits?
We have a proven track record of investment in newly qualified workers and we aim to help you to become the best social worker that you can be.
We will expect a lot from you, but in return you can also expect a lot from us. Many of those who have gone through our NQSW programme have progressed toon to be senior social workers and managers within Norfolk Children's Services.
