A message from Sara Tough, Executive Director of Children's Services

We are ambitious and passionately committed, with a real track record of success and strong aspirations for further excellence, recognised by Ofsted in January 2023 as Good in all areas.

We know social work can be a tough but rewarding job. We care about creating an environment where social workers can spend more time with families than files, where they have the right support to manage caseloads, and the managerial back up for big decisions. We care about providing the right professional and emotional support for wellbeing and career development and real flexibility for the best work-life balance.

I am proud to lead a department which, as part of our five-year £12-15 million transformation of our services, has launched many innovative new ways of working including a range of experts and specialist support on hand specifically to support social workers and frontline practice.

I am delighted that Ofsted found us Good in all areas with inspectors stating that children in Norfolk receive high-quality services and have good relationships with their social workers, which are leading to continued improvements in their circumstances.

It is fantastic to receive recognition for our 'stable and determined children's senior leadership team', our 'consistently good quality services and support' for children and families, and our 'skillful and creative' social workers whose compassion, warmth and commitment is at the heart of our exceptional department.

This success is down to the dedication and passion of our brilliant people, who put children, young people and families at the heart of everything they do. Forging relationships, building on strengths, working with the whole family and the whole system, so children and young people can flourish is our core practice.
