Applying for jobs

GOV.UK guidance on applying for health and social care jobs in the UK from abroad and advice on how to stay safe.

Driving

In most countries in the world, traffic passes on the right-hand side of the road, whereas in the UK traffic keeps to the left. Some drivers also find single track rural roads to be very challenging. Some people adapt more easily than others to making these changes. Weather conditions have a major impact on driving in the UK, especially in winter. New international care staff need to be fully briefed with appropriate safety information.

The Queen's Nursing Institute has produced excellent resources on supporting international nurses to drive in England.

Driving adaptation assessment and lessons

Following collaborative consultation with the adult social care sector, International Recruitment East is funding:

  • Driving assessments
  • Driving lessons

The offer is for international recruits and refugees who require driving for their role in social care. You can view details and apply on the for Suffolk Care Association website.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) driving theory webinars

International Recruitment East has asked the East of England Local Government Association (EELGA) to create two free recorded webinars. These webinars offer advice for international recruits on how to pass driving theory tests in the UK.
