Little Cressingham Mill
This combined wind and water mill was built in approximately 1821. It is probably unique in having one set of stones driven by a waterwheel and another driven by the sails of a windmill in the same building. It is a Grade II* listed building.
The mill ceased operation by windpower in 1916. Sails fitted after a pair had been lost in 1911 were damaged beyond repair after the mill was tailwinded. The mill used waterpower and an engine until 1952.
A smaller waterwheel housed in a white gothic-style brick building on the same site provided power for a Bramah pump. This provided water to Clermont Lodge for their gardens and fishpond. The pump was superseded in the 1930s by two Green and Carter hydraulic rams, housed in one of the aluminium buildings on site.
The mill is visible from Fairstead Lane. It is opened occasionally on special event days.
