You and your body

Puberty

Your body goes through many changes in your early teens and puberty is a normal part of growing up. It can affect you in many different ways and sometimes it can be scary if we're not sure what to expect. You will notice changes in your body and how you feel during puberty and sometimes these can be embarrassing talking about, but talking to an adult can help.

For girls, puberty usually happens between the ages of 8 and 14. Some girls can start puberty earlier and some later - everyone is different. See information on puberty for girls on the Childline website.

For boys, it is common to start puberty around the age of 12-13, but again everyone is different and will start puberty when their body is ready and this may be earlier or later. See information on puberty for boys on the Childline website.

Sexual Development

Like your body and your brain, your sexuality develops throughout life. It may take time to find out who you are and what you want, but that's all part of the process. More about love, sex, relationships and identity can be found at FPA - the sexual health company.
