Norfolk County Council , 8 March 2022 00:00

Younger residents from across Norfolk will get the chance to learn vital skills with the welcome return of children's safety programme Crucial Crew.

Crucial Crew is a multi-agency safety education event for year 6 children across Norfolk. The programme involves the service working alongside partners including the RNLI, Norfolk Constabulary and HM Coast Guard to stage fun, engaging and informative safety events for students to learn about safety by experiencing risk in a safe, controlled environment.

Our Breckland Crucial Crew is running all this week at Letton Hall, marking the first-time sessions have been held in-person since March 2020.

In each session this week, over 100 children from four local schools took part in a number of realistic scenarios to help them learn how to stay safe. Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service ran a workshop teaching children how to stay safe at home and how to prevent household fires in continued efforts to help prevent fires through education.

Crucial Crew events are planned to take place in all seven districts between March and November.

Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, Cabinet member for Partnerships at Norfolk County Council, said: "Crucial Crew offers valuable, educational resources from public sector experts for local children which will help keep them safe in years to come. We are so pleased to be able to return to face-to-face events as these prove to be invaluable to Norfolk's children."

The following organisations are attending the Breckland Crucial Crew event and are hoping to attend future sessions:

  • Norfolk Police
  • RNLI
  • East Anglian Air Ambulance
  • Norfolk County Council's Road Safety team
