Thank you to Great Yarmouth
Norfolk County Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor Graham Plant, has extended his thanks and praise to residents for their resilience and patience in what has been a difficult time for the town while also recognising the enormous effort of the multi-agency teams involved.
Cllr Graham Plant said: "From the swift action of the project team on making the discovery, to the monumental effort and teamwork of all those involved in the relief effort and bringing the situation to a safe conclusion, I say a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the people of Great Yarmouth. From the emergency services, the Army, government agencies, frontline staff at both the Borough and County Councils, all the contractors and community volunteers and anyone who has helped or supported in any way, you all deserve our utmost praise.
"The explosion shows just what a dangerous job the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team do, day-in, day-out. They are the heroes of this operation.
"It also shows just why it was important to set up the cordon around the site, and I would want to commend those residents directly affected for their resilience and patience during this time.
"We will continue to support vulnerable residents in this process and our highways team and their colleagues from the Environment Agency can begin to assess the impact of the explosion.
"Once again, I give my thanks to all those involved. I would also like to thank our contractor BAM Farrans for supporting the resilience forum throughout the whole process including working alongside them in establishing the safe zone for the bomb."
