Big Norfolk Holiday Fun Opens for Easter Bookings
Children across Norfolk can benefit from a range of fun activities this Easter, as the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun scheme returns for the two-week school holiday.
Bookings are now open for the programme, which provides free activities and a healthy hot or cold lunch for children eligible for means tested free school meals.
This Easter the scheme has more activities and providers than ever before. Delivered by Norfolk County Council in partnership with Active Norfolk, it supports children aged 5 to 16 as part of the government's Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and will see 90 providers, including more provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Cllr John Fisher, Cabinet Member for Children's Services at Norfolk County Council said,
"It's brilliant that this successful scheme, which has provided children in Norfolk with a fun and safe space to go in during the school holidays, has continued to grow with more providers and more activities on offer.
Not only does it give children the opportunity to make new friends, discover a new passion, or simply have fun, but it also helps parents reduce their childcare costs.
We've had great feedback from children and young people who have taken part in the past, so I'd encourage families to get booking on what promises to be a fantastic Easter programme. We know it is a welcome support for many families during the school holidays".
Ella Daymond, who is the Creative Engagement Coordinator for Norwich Puppet Theatre, and who are working with Big Norfolk Holiday Fun, said,
"We love being part of Big Norfolk Holiday Fun! Our Puppet Club is a fun, creative space to learn performance skills, get crafty, and create your own puppet performance. Thanks to the scheme, we can provide children with tasty and nutritious lunches each day catered by Aroma Café. We love watching our young people grow in confidence, develop new and lasting friendships, and stretch their imaginations; we can't wait to meet our new group of puppeteers this Easter and see what stories unfold".
Activities will run from 3 - 17 April and are now open for bookings. The scheme is free for children eligible for means tested free school meals, and for young carers and children who are refugees. Paid spots for a small charge are available on many activities for those who don't qualify for a free place.
