New bus service will provide connections to canary sites and city transport hubs

Norfolk County Council , 6 April 2023 00:00

A brand-new bus service which runs between Carrow Road and The Nest, stopping at Norwich train station and the airport is being introduced as part of Norfolk County Council's Bus Service Improvement Plan.

Route 35 known as the 'Canary Konect' is operated by Konectbus and will provide an hourly service seven days a week from 16 April. The new service is funded by money secured from the Department for Transport to improve bus services across the county.

The first bus departs Norwich Airport at 7:10am and gets to Carrow Road at 7:33am. The last bus departs Carrow Road at 18:05pm and ends at The Nest at 18:38pm.

The route stops at; The Nest, Norwich Airport, Cromer Road, Aylsham Road, Anglia Square, Norwich Railway Station and Carrow Road.

Grahame Bygrave, Director of Highways, Transport & Waste said; "Our bus services are absolutely vital to ensuring residents can remain independent and access services. Having services that also connect to other transport hubs such as the airport and rail station mean that people can be confident in getting around when they arrive in the County car-free."

A single trip on the services will cost just £2 until the end of June as Konectbus are one of the local operators taking part in the fare cap promotion funded by HM Government as part of their Help for Households campaign.

This new service is being funded by the £49.55 million funding which Norfolk County Council was successful in securing from the Department for Transport (DfT) to use on implementing the county-wide Bus Service Improvement Plan over the next three years.

Gavin Smith, Managing Director of Go East Anglia/Konectbus said; "Konectbus are delighted to have been involved with the BSIP funding project alongside other local operators and Norfolk County Council. This new route links many key transport hubs and sporting facilities across the city and further supports the recent introduction of 512 to the NNUH, 11C from the Heartsease estate and enhancement to our rural Fab 4 route."
