New connection to airport via new pedestrian cycle and bus route

Norfolk County Council , 23 May 2023 00:00

The Transport for Norwich Advisory Committee will consider proposals for a new, direct and convenient connection between Norwich Airport and the nearby industrial estate.

The scheme would deliver a new link by upgrading and widening Liberator Road to enable two-way pedestrian, cycle and bus travel.

Councillor Graham Plant, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Transport at Norfolk County Council said:

"This scheme will significantly improve access to the airport, the International Aviation Academy and the industrial estate. It will also help people to choose more sustainable modes of transport when they travel to and from the area."

The Airport Industrial Estate currently has no direct public transport connection to Norwich Airport. The new link road will help to improve bus services serving this area coming from the east and southeast of the city.

Cyclists and pedestrians will benefit from a new and direct route connecting the airport site. The improvements will also provide the opportunity for the Yellow Pedalway to extend to the Broadland Northway and on to Horsford and Horsham St Faiths.

The scheme will also aim to improve the look and feel of the area with the introduction of a grass verge and planting.

The scheme has a budget of £1,152,931 with funding from the £32m Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) awarded to Norwich by The Department for Transport (DfT).
