RIPPLE privacy notice
This privacy notice provides information about the RIPPLE project and how Norfolk County Council's Public Health Service (Public Health) and our project partners use your personal information to carry out this project.
By 'use' we mean what we do with your information, and how we store and share it.
Norfolk County Council act as a 'data controller'. This means that we collect and process information. Our partners within this project are 'data processors'. These partners are:
- Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust (NSFT),
- University of East Anglia (UEA),
- North Norfolk District Council (NNDC), and
- Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB)
The legal basis for conducting this project and processing your information is our Public Health duties set out within Section 12 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
What is 'RIPPLE: Improving Climate Psychological Preparedness for Coastal Communities'?
The aim of the project is to work with existing coastal resilience, coastal management, local authority partners and communities to better understand long term mental health problems in coastal populations with a view to developing prevention methods for addressing these.
You can learn more about the project by visiting www.norfolk.gov.uk/RIPPLE
There are two main elements of the project: a survey and discussion-based interviews.
The survey and how we use your information
The survey is open to all residents 16 years old and over within the study areas (Mundesley and Walcott/Ostend civil parishes). This survey will enable us to better understand issues around climate psychological preparedness. It should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
The survey is online, hosted by Norfolk County Council's website. However, if you prefer to fill in a printed survey, copies are available from:
- Mundesley Library
- Walcott Stores/Post office
- Mobile library calling at Walcott coastline village on 18 June 11.55am - 12.10pm or the village hall 12.15-12.30pm.
Freepost envelopes will be provided.
If you complete a printed survey and return it to us, we will input this on your behalf into the online survey so all of the data is in one place and is kept separately from any contact details you may have enclosed.
After the survey closes on Sunday 7 July 2024, NCC will securely share the data with NSFT, who are leading the research. They will anonymise this data and use it to produce a report. The report will include recommendations for next steps. The report will be shared with the public and at a conference hosted by UEA, likely to take place in September 2024.
To show our appreciation for your time, we will be holding a random prize draw for those who complete the survey and opt-in to the prize draw. Three winners will be selected and can then choose between a local voucher, high street voucher, or online retail voucher up to the value of £50. After you complete the survey, you will be taken to a separate form where you will be able to opt-in to the prize draw. Your name and contact details will be kept separately and will not be shared with our partners. If you are one of the winners, NCC will follow up with you after the survey closes to find out which vouchers you'd like if you gave us consent to do this.
The discussion-based interviews and how we use your information
We are conducting discussion-based interviews for a small number of residents aged 16 or over who live within the study areas (Mundesley and Walcott/Ostend civil parishes), to help us to better understand issues around climate psychological preparedness and where you can share your thoughts and feelings.
You are invited to complete an Expression of Interest (EoI) form to let us know you are interested in participating in a discussion-based interview.
The EoI form is online, hosted by Norfolk County Council's website. However, if you prefer to fill in a printed survey, copies are available from:
- Mundesley Library
- Walcott Stores/Post office
- Mobile library calling at Walcott coastline village on 18 June 11.55am - 12.10pm or the village hall 12.15-12.30pm
Freepost envelopes will be provided.
If you complete a printed EoI form and return it to us, we will input this on your behalf into the online EoI form so all of the data is in one place.
The form closes on Sunday 7 July 2024. After this date we will share the EoI data with our partners at NSFT, UEA, and NNDC to select participants for the discussion-based interviews. If you are selected for the discussion-based interviews, you will be contacted shortly after this date to book the interview. It is anticipated that the interviews will take place before the end of July.
The interview will last between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the discussion, and can take place in a meeting room within your village or somewhere comfortable for you. A researcher from the NSFT or UEA will conduct the interview with you and an NNDC Community Connector will also be present to support you.
The interview will be recorded and transcribed to assist the researcher and Community Connector to support analysis of the information you provide during the interview. The NNDC Community Connector will use the recording and/or transcript of the interview to summarise the responses you provided and input this into the Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care System's Community Voices Insight Bank.
The information inputted into the Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care System's Community Voices Insight Bank helps us plan better and improve how we deliver services in the future. None of your personal or identifiable information will be input into the Insight Bank. If unique information is shared which could be used to identify you, it will not be recorded here. View information on Data Protection in the Community Voices Programme on the Improving Lives website.
To show our appreciation for your time, everyone who completes an interview will be offered either a local voucher, high street voucher, or online retail voucher, to a value of £20. As part of the Expression of Interest form, you will be asked if you would like a voucher for completing an interview. You will need to provide us with consent to allow us to contact you after the interview to find out which type of voucher you would like and how we can get the voucher to you. You are not required to take vouchers if you do not wish to.
How long we will keep your data
When the information is no longer needed for the above reasons, it will be securely deleted or shredded. All personal data will be confidentially destroyed by the end of the project. This is anticipated to completed by 31 December 2024, but may be sooner.
