Lynn Road junction, Heacham - bus service improvement work

Overview

Planned start date: Monday 16 September 2024

Estimated finish date: Thursday 24 October 2024

We will be carrying out work to improve the left-hand turn from the Lynn Road in Heacham on to the A149. The work will make it much easier for large and long vehicles to make the turn. We will also be removing the 'pinch-point' on the bend of Lynn Road as it approaches the junction. These changes will help improve traffic flow through the area. They will also help improve journey times and reliability of services using the area.

We will achieve this improvement by widening:

  • The kerb line at the left-hand turn on to the A149
  • The road on the Lynn Road bend

At the end of the construction period we will also carry out resurfacing of the A149, Lynn Road and B1454 junction.

Temporary road closures

We need to put in place some temporary road closures so our contractor can carry out this work safely:

  • We will close Lynn Road from the Norfolk Lavender overflow car park to the A149 junction from Monday 16 September until Thursday 24 October. The official diversion route (suitable for heavy goods vehicles) will be via Lynn Road, Hunstanton Road, Butterfield Meadow and the A149. Alternative local routes will also be available.
  • We will close B1454 overnight only (7pm to 6am) between Wednesday 9 October and Friday 18 October. This is for resurfacing of its junction with the A149 and Lynn Road.

Bus services

The closure period will impact Lynx Bus routes 34/35/36, 35, 408 and 414. Unfortunately, buses will not be able to serve the following bus stops in Heacham while work takes place:

  • Nourse Drive
  • Ringstead Road
  • Norfolk Lavender

During the closure, buses will be diverting via Hunstanton Road. The nearest alternative bus stops will be near the Tesco Express. For service updates, please visit www.lynxbus.co.uk.

We understand that disruption on the roads and to bus services is frustrating. Our apologies for any inconvenience this work causes. We will be working with our contractor, Tarmac, throughout to minimise the impact as much as possible.

Background to the project

This project is part of a series of improvements we're making in the county. The aims are to improve bus journey times and reliability of services across our public transport network. We're using funding awarded to us by the Department for Transport for our Bus Service Improvement Plan to:

  • Invest in infrastructure at strategic locations
  • Relieve specific areas of congestion that affect buses
  • Deliver better, more punctual services

The improvements are alongside funding for additional and extended services, the current £2 fare cap, and zero-emission buses. We hope the result is that more people will choose the bus for their everyday journeys.

The Department for Transport (DfT) awarded the county council nearly £50m of funding for its Bus Service Improvement Plan. You can read more about our work on the project by visiting www.norfolk.gov.uk/busstrategy
