Ukraine Permission Extension scheme (UPES)
About the scheme
The UK Government has introduced the Ukraine Permission Extension scheme (UPES). This allows people currently living in the UK under existing Ukraine visa schemes to apply to extend their leave to remain in the UK for another 18 months.
You can apply for free. You can only apply online using your UKVI account.
The scheme opens on 4 February 2025. It's important that you apply at the right time.
Don't be early: Submit your application when you have 28 days or less left on your current leave to remain period. If you apply too early, you'll be rejected.
Don't be late: You must apply before your current leave to remain expires. If you don't you may lose your rights to work, rent, and benefits. You may also have to repay any benefits you received during this time.
If you don't know the date when your current leave to remain ends, sign in to your UKVI account to find out.
You can get more information and apply on the GOV.UK website. If you have any questions about your current visa, UPES or your immigration status, you should contact UKVI or a registered immigration adviser.
Norfolk UPES Support Service
The Government has designed an easy online application for the UPES visa. Most people will be able to apply online themselves. However, we understand that some people might find it harder. Maybe their immigration status is not straightforward, or they are not fluent in English.
We are offering a free support service to Norfolk residents, in partnership with Hanseatic Union and GYROS.
How to apply for help
Please complete our registration form if you need help with either:
- Your application
- An application for a member of your family or household
After you register
Once you sign up, and we check your details, we'll let you know if our service can help you. We will then:
- Check if anyone else in your household might need our support
- Check if you need an individual or household appointment
- Tell you what documents and information you will need to bring to your appointment
- Send you a booking link to make an appointment. If you need an interpreter at your appointment, please ask when booking and we will do our best to help
The appointment
When you book and attend your appointment, you'll meet with a registered Level 1 Immigration Adviser. They'll:
- Give you advice and support for your application
- Tell you what documents, information and evidence you might need to submit to the Home Office as part of your application
Your responsibility
You are responsible for managing and submitting your UPES visa application to the Home Office. This is through your own UKVI account. We can support you in completing your application. However, we can't act as your immigration agent or caseworker.
You should make sure that you submit your application before your current visa expires. You can only submit a UPES visa application from within the UK, and only in the last 28 days of your current visa.
