Development starts on new affordable housing scheme

Norfolk County Council , 18 August 2022 00:00

Work has begun today (18 August) on a new development of 48 homes, designed by Norfolk County Council owned company Repton Property Developments.

The Saxon Heath estate in Attleborough has been designed in conjunction with Lovell to meet high design and specification requirements of Orbit Homes, who will eventually own and manage the site.

Predominantly made up of family homes, all the properties on the site will either be Shared Ownership, or for social rent. The development follows previous successful partnership working with Lovell in Acle and Hopton and is Repton's first all-affordable scheme. The project is set to be completed in Autumn 2023.

Cllr Andrew Proctor, Chairman of the Board of Repton and Leader of Norfolk County Council, said:

"The Saxon Heath development is a different approach as we are building 48 new, much needed affordable homes for either rent or shared ownership, working with our excellent partners, Lovell and Orbit.

"It is another opportunity for Repton to demonstrate the quality of new homes we build and that Norfolk requires."

Simon Medler, Managing Director of Lovell in East Anglia, said:

"Working with our partners Repton and Orbit Homes, we will be building much needed affordable homes in Attleborough. These quality homes will benefit from the site's proximity to the A11, with Norwich and Thetford also in easy reach, making it perfect for commuters, as well as all the amenities of a historic market town.

"Plus, with fantastic schools on the doorstep and lovely countryside walks surrounding Attleborough, we know there will be a lot of interest in this development when it launches. Work is due to start on the site soon."

Andrew Doylend, Regional Managing Director at Orbit Homes, said:

"We are delighted to be working in partnership with both Repton and Lovell, to deliver a mix of social rent and shared ownership homes in Attleborough.

"We know that there is a significant demand for high quality, affordable homes in this area and we look forward to delivering this development and creating a new thriving community in Norfolk."

Repton housing developments offer modern, high quality and affordable homes which raise the design and performance standards to better meet the needs of a changing world. This is done by using extensive local knowledge mixed with in-house expertise to develop existing Council assets, such as poor-quality farmland, and redundant buildings, such as former schools, into new homes.
