Weighbridge certification
Trading Standards have a statutory duty to ensure that weighbridges within Norfolk are accurate and suitable for use for trade purposes. We undertake an annual risk and intelligence based unannounced inspection program on weighbridges and other weights and measures equipment.
If a new weighbridge has been installed or an existing weighbridge repaired, it must be re-verified to make sure it complies with relevant legislation.
Become a public weighbridge
To become a public weighbridge the weighbridge must be approved for use for trade (verified) and those operating the weighbridge must be authorised as a public weighbridge operator by a chief inspector of weights and measures.

We charge a fee for testing and certification of a public weighbridge operator. The fees (which are VAT exempt) are as follows:
- £84 for the first public weighbridge operator (examination and certification of operator)
- £48 for the second and subsequent weighbridge operator (examination and certification of operator) at the same premises on the same occasion
The certification process can take between 10-21 days.
