FACET: Circular waste solutions for food businesses
FACET is a €3.8 million project co-financed by ERDF through the Interreg 2 Seas Programme 2014-2020 (opens new window). FACET aims to encourage businesses in the tourism sector to apply circular solutions within their company, thereby creating new sustainable revenue models. Pilots are being conducted by our project partners in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and England. These pilots cover the topics of circular accommodation, waste reduction and circular operation management.
Great Yarmouth as the UKs third largest seaside resort receives 5.75m tourists per year and has one of the UKs highest densities of takeaway food outlets. In Norfolk the project will focus on tackling waste from the fast food and takeaway sector.
Over the next year Norfolk County Council working closely with Great Yarmouth Borough Council will pilot infrastructure solutions such as smart bins and 'Bottle Ship' recycling bins. The two councils will also create engaging campaigns to encourage visitors to actively use these circular solutions effectively. Support for businesses will involve sharing the latest knowledge of environmentally friendly solutions. It will also include information on joint purchasing models to create viable ways for businesses to be sustainable.
