Disabled travel enhancements

A Norfolk disabled concessionary travel pass entitles you to:

  • Free local bus travel in Norfolk at all times
  • For those who are eligible, a companion enhancement

Companion enhancement

With the companion enhancement, one person can travel with you for free. Your pass will have a C in the top right-hand corner if you have the companion enhancement.

A companion doesn't have to be the same person for each journey. The companion can be anyone:

  • Of bus fare paying age
  • Who can assist a disabled pass holder when using public transport

You may be eligible for the companion enhancement if:

  • You are eligible for a disabled pass
  • You are unable to walk to a bus stop
  • You cannot get on or off a bus without help

The companion enhancement is only available when you start your journey in Norfolk. The companion and the pass holder must get on and off the bus at the same point. The companion will need to pay for their travel on any journeys outside of Norfolk.

Children under 12

The companion enhancement is not available to children under 12. Any adult travelling with a child of this age is undertaking their normal duty as a parent or guardian.

How to apply

If you are applying for a disabled pass:

  • Using a paper form, make sure you fill in the section about the companion enhancement
  • Online, you will need to contact us by email or post to request the companion enhancement

If you are an existing passholder, contact us by email or post to request the companion enhancement.

After receiving your request, we will check records we already hold to see if you meet the criteria. If we need further information to process your application we will get in touch.

We will automatically add the companion enhancement on request, if you have provided evidence of your benefits and:

  • You receive a higher rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for both daily living and mobility
  • You score 10 or 12 point points for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for "planning and following a journey"

If we can confirm from our records that you are sight impaired or severely sight impaired, we will also automatically add the companion enhancement on request.
