Norfolk Youth Justice Service
Norfolk Youth Justice Service (NYJS) is a multi-agency partnership team. Our aim is to:
- Prevent children from offending
- Help children repair the damage they caused to their victims
- Make Norfolk an even safer place to live
- Help children achieve their full potential in life
We supervise and support children aged 10 to 18-years-old who committed offences and received:
- A diversionary outcome
- Any type of Youth Caution
- An order from the Court
Anti-racist statement for Norfolk Youth Justice Service
The Justice Select Committee noted that "race disproportionality is significant and fundamental, visible in every part of the youth justice system".
We commit to becoming an anti-racist service. We acknowledge that racism exists within the systems we deliver and operate within. We appreciate that this impacts on the disproportionate representation of children from ethnic minority groups within the youth justice system. We accept responsibility for taking action wherever and whenever racism occurs.
We will:
- Educate ourselves and encourage conversation
- Challenge ourselves and learn from our mistakes
- Listen to the voices of children and parents from ethnic minority communities. These thoughts will help us reform our strategies and our actions.
- Strengthen our structures and systems, our policies and our procedures. In doing so, we will remove barriers for children from ethnic minority backgrounds.
- Be equitable in how we treat children and in the decisions we make about them. Equitable means fair.
