Bikeability
We work with the Bikeability trust to provide interactive and engaging on and off road cycle training.
Bikeability sessions can support schools to achieve outcomes associated with:
- Physical activity
- Personal social health and economic education (PSHE)
Bikeability accredited training providers deliver the cycling training across Norfolk. Training providers include:
- Outspoken
- SJ3 outdoors
- Pedal power
Aims
Bikeability aims to:
- Offer progressive practical training opportunities
- Build confidence in both on-road and off-road environments
- Support independent journeys
- Prepare riders to develop independence and build resilience
- Support health and wellbeing
Course details
Bikeability training courses are:
- Inclusive and can meet specific needs
- Suitable for all abilities
- Available to children and young people in education or training. This includes children and young people educated at home or part of youth groups.
Bikeability courses
Bikeability level 1
This is an off-road course. It builds skills and confidence in riders, in a traffic free environment.
You will learn simple bike maintenance and how to control your bike and glide.
Level 1 is suitable for primary school and secondary school students. It is often delivered in year 3 and 4 at primary school.

Bikeability combined level 1 and 2
This is an on-road course. It builds skills and confidence in riders in low to medium traffic environments.
You will learn to start and stop, pass vehicles and understand the road.
Combined level 1 and 2 is suitable for primary school and secondary school students. It is often delivered in year 5 and 6 at primary school.

Bikeability level 3
This is an on-road course. It builds skills and confidence in riders in more advanced road situations.
You will learn riding positions, how to ride on complex roads and confident responses to hazards.
Level 3 is suitable for primary school and secondary school students. It is often delivered in year 6 at primary school and onwards into secondary school.

Bikeability fix
This is a bike maintenance course to help teach simple fixes to ensure your bike is road-worthy.
You will learn essential cycle maintenance skills. This includes puncture repair and inner tube replacement.
Bikeability fix is suitable for primary school and secondary school students. It is often delivered in year 4 at primary school and onwards into secondary school.

Bikeability for families
We want young people to enjoy cycling as a life skill.
This is a tailored course, designed to build skills and confidence in riders of all ages and abilities.
