Active travel survey
Choosing to walk, wheel or scoot to and from school allows children and young people to take part in physical activity. It can make journeys happier, healthier and greener.
We offer coaching to help schools reflect on active travel commitments and future plans. This can help you to create active schools and embed road safety across the school's culture.
You can arrange an active travel survey at any point during the academic year.
Who it is for
The active travel survey is for:
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools
- Special educational needs (SEN) schools
- Colleges
Our aims
We aim to promote and encourage safe and sustainable active travel and road safety goals within an educational setting.
The goal of the active travel survey is to gather information through a conversation. This can help us to understand the challenges faced in local areas.
We will:
- Look for solutions and sign post you to other resources and support available
- Empower your school or college to set ambitious and achievable goals. This is to help you make a positive difference for children and young people so they can Flourish.
How the active travel survey works
There are 3 stages to the active travel survey:
- Stage one is to complete an online, pre-active travel questionnaire. This gathers baseline active travel trends about your school, your intentions and goals.
- Stage two is a one-to-one discussion with a member of our road safety team. This is to discuss challenges, opportunities and practical initiatives that could support you. We will create an action plan of key activities for you.
- Stage three is to complete an online, post-active travel questionnaire. This will be six months after receiving your action plan. It captures your progress and your plans to make sustainable and consistent changes.
We will offer coaching and support whilst you work on your active travel survey.
Grant funded active travel surveys
We may invite schools to take part in this survey and receive a grant. This is to help overcome inequalities across active travel and road safety.
Your schools newsletter will advertise this. We select schools using a data led approach.
Schools selected for a grant funded active travel survey must meet certain terms and conditions.
Cost
This opportunity is free.
Norfolk County Council Public Health funds it.
