Bus lane and bus gate enforcement
Bus lanes and bus gates use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. These cameras are used to capture images of vehicles that are in bus lanes that are reviewed to see if an offence has taken place.
Bus lanes give priority to buses and other authorised vehicles to improve journey times and reliability. Bus lanes are marked with a solid white line and associated signs.
Bus gates give priority to buses and other authorised vehicles. They have similar signs to bus lanes but do not need to have a white line painted on the road.
Unless the bus lane signs indicate times of operation, bus lanes operate all day, every day including on bank holidays.
