Joint Strategic Needs Assessment
The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) looks at:
- The health and wellbeing of the local population
- The current and future health and care needs of the local population
- Opportunities for preventing ill health in the local area
We use this information to help us plan local health and care services and build our Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment
The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is a statutory document that gives us a picture of current pharmaceutical services across our area. It helps us to identify gaps in those services and ways services could be improved in Norfolk.
Pharmaceutical services are services provided by community pharmacies on behalf of the NHS. They include:
- Dispensing of medicines and appliances on prescription.
- Sale of medicines to the public.
- Providing advice to the public on medicines, coping with ill health, and general health and wellbeing.
- Receiving waste medicines for safe destruction.
We consult widely, including consulting with GPs, pharmacists, and the public to draw up the assessment. There is also a requirement to reassess and revise the PNA within three years of its previous publication. Following the publication of the latest PNA all appendices have been created as standalone documents to enable them to be viewed alongside the main PNA document.
A supplementary statement records changes to the provision of pharmacy services since the publication of the PNA. They're issued for the opening and closure of pharmacies or when there are minor changes. Once issued, a supplementary statement becomes part of the PNA. To view these statements in the document library please search for Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment on the Norfolk insight website.
