Hazardous waste items we do not accept
We do not accept hazardous waste at our recycling centres.
However, we do accept the following household items only during our hazardous waste days held annually at some of our recycling centres:
- Aerosols - full or part full (empty aerosols are accepted)
- Antifreeze
- Bleach
- Brake fluid
- Degreasers
- Descalers
- Drain cleaners
- Fence or shed treatments/preservers
- Fertilisers
- Fire extinguishers (maximum 2 per household) - some extinguisher supply companies may also offer a disposal service; check the labelling on your fire extinguisher
- Fungicides
- Gas bottles and cylinders - empty gas bottles and cylinders can be accepted except CO2, O2 and N2O. Full or partially full gas bottles or cylinders will not be accepted. Always return non-empty gas containers to the gas company branded on the container or search your local telephone directory/online under bottled gas.
- Glue
- Insecticides
- Lawn treatments
- Lubricants
- Oven cleaners
- Paint/paint cans
- Paintbrush cleaner/thinners
- Pesticides/fertilisers
- Photographic chemicals
- Stain removers
- Swimming pool cleaners
- Weed killer
- Wood preservers/treatments
We do not accept the following items at any time:
- Ammunition, explosives or marine flares
- Asbestos
- Commercial hazardous waste
- Fireworks
- Any full or partially full gas bottles or cylinders, under any circumstances
- The following kinds of empty bottles or cylinders:
- Nitrous Oxide (N2O) gas bottles or cylinders
- Oxygen (O2) gas bottles or cylinders
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas bottles or cylinders
- Medicines and medical equipment
- Mercury
- Oil tanks (full or part-full)
- Petrol, diesel, heating oil or any other fuels
- Sharps, syringes, needles or any other clinical waste
- Thermometers

If you have an empty hazardous waste container then this can be placed in the 'non-recyclables' container at any of Norfolk's recycling centres.
