Mendham riverbank erosion repair works

Works to repair erosion at Mendham riverbank

Issue and solution

Following the long-term closure of Mendham Low Road because of riverbank erosion, works were carried out. Piling was installed to stabilise the riverbank and to repair the damaged carriageway.

The works began at the end of January 2023 and lasted for six weeks. The road closure and diversion route remained in place during the works. The signed diversion route was via Mendham Lane, A143 Harleston Bypass, Mendham Lane, Spirketts Lane and B1116 Shotford Road.

The work cost £236,000 and was carried out by Norfolk County Council's community and environmental services department and its contractors.
