Norfolk's road safety partnership
Operation Octane
Car enthusiasts often meet up to socialise and view each others vehicles. These events are often called 'car meets'.
Most people attending these events are responsible. They comply to legal road use and show positive road safety behaviours and attitudes.
Some behaviours can cause disruption and increase risk across the community. For example, racing, speeding and unsafe parking.
Aims
Operation Octane aims to:
- Maintain safe experiences at these events for drivers, riders, pedestrians, the wider community
- Address risky driving behaviours with education first, warnings and enforcement where appropriate
- Reduce the impact of anti-social behaviour with vehicle related incidents
Who leads the operation
Norfolk Police leads this operation. This is in partnership with Norfolk County Council, local district councils and National Highways.
How local councils work to reduce anti-social vehicle related incidents
Local councils are working with the police on Operation Octane. This is through the use of public space protection orders (PSPOs). Specifically vehicle-related antisocial behaviour PSPOs.
Learn more about PSPOs in your area on your local councils website:
